Mason Baptista, who had a career-best season with the Komets, has signed to play next season in Germany with EHC Freiburg.
Baptista had career bests in goals (18) and points (50) in 62 regular-season games this season. In the playoffs, he had two goals and eight points in 18 games, as the Komets reached the Western Conference finals, losing 4-3 in overtime of Game 7 to the Colorado Eagles.
The Eagles and Florida Everblades are tied at 1 in the Kelly Cup finals. Former Komets forward Mitch Heard netted the winning goal for Florida in a 4-3 victory in Game 2 on Sunday at Loveland, Colorado.
Baptista, 28, spent three seasons with the Komets as a forward.
With so many players having career-best seasons, or becoming veterans under ECHL rules, the Komets are expecting much turnover this off-season.
Gabriel Desjardins, who was voted MVP by his Fort Wayne teammates, signed last week to play overseas next season in Sweden. Phelix Martineau has an American Hockey League deal with Laval.
