COLUMBIA CITY – Angola will move on to Saturday night's regional finals after beating New Castle 68-54 Saturday morning.
The Hornets (21-6) kicked off the game with a basket from Hanna Knoll and 3-pointers by Reace Peppler and Sarah Duvendack to take an 8-0 lead But the Trojans quickly matched the pace, even taking a 14-12 lead on a 3-pointer by Maddy Meek.
At the end of a first quarter that included a combined seven 3-pointers, the Hornets led 18-17. And while Angola kept up the pace, New Castle at times fell off. The Hornets led 32-27 at halftime, and then Knoll and Peppler hit back-to-back 3s at the start of the quarter to give Angola an 11-point lead. The Hornet lead would hover in the double-digits until the final buzzer.
Peppler led Angola with 20 points, Duvendack had 17 and Knoll finished with 13. New Castle's Cameron Tabor scored 22 points, including all nine of the points scored by the Trojans in the third quarter.
Angola will play the winner of the Marion-West Noble semifinal at Columbia City at 8 p.m. Saturday night.
