Trial set in barbershop slaying

MATTHEW LEBLANC | The Journal Gazette

An October trial date was set Wednesday for a man accused of killing a local barber April 9.

James Dodson Jr., 34, is charged with murder and criminal recklessness in the shooting death of Michael LoVett Jr. Prosecutors also have sought a sentencing enhancement because a gun was used to commit the alleged crime.

Dodson was a customer at The Legendary Barbershop, 1818 Lake Ave. on the day LoVett was killed, according to police. Dodson left the business but returned with two other men and confronted LoVett before he was killed.

Only Dodson has been charged in the killing.

An Allen County magistrate scheduled a four-day trial to start Oct. 28.
