Court documents: Man killed in Runnion slaying not intended target

MATTHEW LEBLANC | The Journal Gazette

A 40-year-old man killed Oct. 13 on Runnion Avenue was not the target of the shooting, according to court documents.

Pablo Guzman Vasquez was shot to death in the 600 block of Runnion Avenue, but the target was supposed to be a homeowner in the area, a probable cause affidavit filed today in Allen Superior Court states. That's according to unnamed witnesses who told police they planned to set up another witness "so they could take his drugs, money and electronics.

Jermaine Turner, 40, was arrested Wednesday and charged this morning with murder, possession of a handgun by a serious violent offender and possession of cocaine.

Investigators said Turner had 1.6 grams of the drug when he was taken into custody.

A witness told police another witness indicated Turner shot Vasquez, the affidavit alleges. Turner, who was convicted in Illinois of criminal sexual assault in 1997, denied being involved.
