Fort Wayne, February 21, 2018: Fort Wayne Trails has earned a spot in the March Madness, bracket-style competition called Brackets for Good. Starting Friday, March 2, Fort Wayne Trails will rally supporters to advance in an online single-elimination bracket-style fundraising tournament with a grand prize of $10,000.

Fort Wayne Trails will be playing to win, in order to complete the 100 Mile fundraising campaign begun in the fall of 2017. The goal is $100,000, and $75,000 has been raised to date. The 100th mile of public, paved, trail is a giant accomplishment for connectivity in our community. In an age where more and more people walk and ride bikes for transportation and health, our network of trails are emblematic of the quality of life of our residents.

The 100 Mile Campaign provides an opportunity for everyone in our community to help continue that momentum as we continue to plan and develop new trails throughout Allen County. Brackets for Good donors whose total donation during the competition is $100 or more will be included on a permanent marker to be installed at the Towpath Trailhead, on Engle Road.

"Our community has been wonderfully supportive of trail projects, and we are excited to assist our municipal partners in fundraising for new trail development into the future," said Kent Castleman, Executive Director. "The Pufferbelly Trail will continue to grow, and plans are in the works for trails on Union Chapel, Covington, and in southeast Fort Wayne. Brackets for Good provides a unique opportunity for donors to give to our 100 Mile Campaign, and help us earn the top prize of $10,000 if we win the Indiana tournament."

Indianapolis-based Brackets For Good pairs with corporate and nonprofit sponsors to host online bracket-style fundraising tournaments in philanthropic communities around the United States. Brackets for Good has raised more than $6.4 million for charitable nonprofits since its 2012 kick-off contest in Indianapolis.

Participating nonprofits rally enthusiastic donors to out-fundraise their opponents in order to advance. Through the excitement, localized marketing and corporate involvement, nonprofits earn increased exposure, gain access to free fundraising tools, and are introduced to new donors. Dollars from donors translate to points, giving participants the opportunity to advance in each markets' bracket. Competing nonprofits keep donations received during tournament play, no matter how many rounds they advance. The winning organization in each tournament receives an additional championship grant.
