5 arraigned in BAE tuition scam; 1 to plead guilty

Five employees of a defense contractor with offices in Fort Wayne pleaded not guilty Wednesday to federal charges of defrauding the company.
Another worker, Tia N. Russell, filed paperwork admitting she stole nearly $12,000 from BAE Systems through a tuition assistance program.
Aaron L. Boone, Denaryl Mojet, Cynequa M. Relue, Richard A. Relue Jr. and Jessica L. Shutt each were arraigned Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Fort Wayne and entered pleas of not guilty.
Russell, who was indicted in February, agreed to plead guilty to one count of wire fraud. The agreement calls for her to pay back $11,880.
Twenty-five other people are charged in the alleged scheme, which involved submitting tuition requests to the company, pocketing the money and never taking the classes.
