Matthew LeBlanc | The Journal Gazette

The man accused of killing 8-year-old April Tinsley in 1988 appeared in court Thursday, and a judge entered a not guilty plea for him.

John D. Miller, 59, is charged with murder and child molesting in the girl's death. He confessed to strangling and sexually assaulting her 30 years ago, according to court documents filed this week.

Miller, of Grabill, was formally charged Wednesday. A trial date is expected to be set in a hearing Aug. 3.
