Court records: Woman stabbed to death in motel

JIM CHAPMAN | The Journal Gazette

A woman found dead in a north-side motel room last week was stabbed to death, court documents filed today state.

Tyrin Royce Boone, 40, was arrested Friday on a preliminary felony aggravated battery charge in the death of his wife, Janaya Michelle Boone, 38. Her body was found Wednesday in a room at Regency Inn on Coliseum Boulevard West.

The Allen County coroner has not ruled on the cause or manner of Janaya Boone's death.

A probable cause affidavit, however, said a cleaning woman found Janaya Boone around 12:25 p.m. Wednesday in a pool of blood in a room where she and her husband had been staying since Dec. 4.

A knife with blood on it was found nearby, court records said, and an autopsy showed Janaya Boone died from sharp force trauma to the neck causing a severed artery and jugular vein.

Witnesses told police they saw the couple arguing in a motel hallway between 1 and 2 p.m. Dec. 11, the day before she was found.

That same day, surveillance video caught the couple and another man unloading grocery bags and a baby stroller from a white Nissan and walking up a set of stairs at the motel around 2:30 p.m. Around 2:50 p.m. Tyrin Boone was seen on video leaving the motel in the same vehicle and driving west on Coliseum Boulevard.

From that point until Janaya Boone was found the next day, no one was caught on video entering or leaving the room where she was discovered, court records said.

Police found Tyrin Boone Friday night wearing the same two-tone gray sweatshirt and jeans he was seen wearing at the motel in video footage. The jeans had red stains believed to be dried blood on the left thigh and right knee, court records said.

Tyrin Boone told police he and his wife were arguing in the motel room, but stopped the interview when a detective asked what the argument was about, court records said.

Prosecutors have until Thursday to file formal charges against Tyrin Boone.
