Telecommunications company to eliminate 300 Warsaw jobs

A Minnesota-based telecommunications company plans to eliminate about 300 jobs in its Warsaw facilities, according to a filing with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

KGP Telecommunications LLC citied "a sudden decrease in business from a large customer" for the permanent loss of jobs, according to the letter written by Matthew Drevlow, the company's attorney.

The affected facilities are at 2000 W. Winona Ave. and 3454 N. Detroit St. in Warsaw. The majority of the affected workers are at the Detroit Street facility, the WARN letter stated.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires companies planning mass firings or layoffs to notify state and local officials at least 60 days before the effective date.

"Because the extent of the business decline is unknown, we cannot confirm whether the Detroit Street location will close or not," Drevlow wrote.

Job losses will begin on or about April 17.
