A Fort Wayne man admitted today to robbing a northeast-side credit union twice in a week.

Michael D. Coates, 59, pleaded guilty this morning in Allen Superior Court to two counts of armed robbery. He also pleaded guilty to burglary in an unrelated case.

Police said he robbed the Three Rivers Federal Credit Union branch on YMCA Drive, near St. Joe Center and Maplecrest roads, on Aug. 1 and Aug. 6. In both cases, investigators said he demanded money and left with cash.

A plea agreement calls for him to be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.

In the other case, a man told police Coates showed up at his home July 31 and tried to take two guns and a wallet before asking for help.

He could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.

Coates is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 31 in both cases.
