Flood warnings continue for St. Joseph, Tiffin rivers

Flood warnings continue for moderate flooding of the St. Joseph River near Newville and below Montpelier, Ohio, and the Tiffin River at Stryker, Ohio, the National Weather Service said today.

  • The St. Joseph River near Newville was at 13.5 feet and rising at 8 a.m. Monday; flood stage is 12 feet. The river is forecast to crest near 14.4 feet about 7 a.m. Wednesday. At 14 feet, significant flooding occurs on DeKalb County Road 42 northeast of Newville, and considerable agricultural and lowland flooding occurs along the river to Cedarville Reservoir. This crest compares to a crest that occurred in May 2011.
  • The St. Joseph River below Montpelier, Ohio, was at 13.7 feet and rising at 7 a.m. Monday; flood stage is 12 feet. The river is forecast to crest near 14.8 feet about 7 p.m. Tuesday. This crest compares to a crest that occurred in May 2019.
  • The Tiffin River at Stryker was at 14.1 feet and rising at 9 a.m. Monday; flood stage is 11 feet. The river is forecast to crest near 15.4 feet about 7 a.m. Tuesday. At 15 feet, several rural buildings flood and flooding begins to affect residents in Stryker. Many roads become impassible. The crest compares to a crest that occurred in January 2008.
