Judge: Bond to stay at $100,000 in shooting case

MATT LeBLANC | The Journal Gazette

An Allen County judge today rejected a request from a man accused of shooting into a house to lower his bond amount.

Henry Underwood, 26, is being held in lieu of $100,000, and he and his lawyer argued that's too high. Prosecutors argued Underwood is a flight risk who has failed to show up for at least two prior court hearings.

In court this morning, Allen Superior Judge Fran Gull kept the bond in place, saying it is necessary to ensure Underwood appears for future hearings.

He is charged with criminal recklessness and being a felon carrying a handgun with a prior felony conviction.

Underwood had been charged in an unrelated case with murder in the 2017 shooting death of a man at an apartment complex east of downtown. Jurors in the earlier case found him not guilty.
