A former Indiana basketball star and a longtime Hoosier coach and administrator who went to college at Manchester were among those who will be inducted to the Indiana University Athletics Hall of Fame in the Class of 2018, Indiana announced Wednesday.
Brian Evans, who played for the Hoosiers from 1993-96 and is a native of Terre Haute, was the Big Ten MVP in 1996 after averaging 21.2 points and 7.1 rebounds. He is 12th in Indiana history in points and 10th in rebounds. After he left IU, Evans played four years in the NBA.
Ann Lawver was the Hoosiers’ first volleyball coach, holding the position from 1975-83 and leading the team to 28 victories in 1976 and 1977, an IU record that still stands. She also coached the softball team from 1977-79 and guided the team to the Women’s College World Series in 1979.
Lawver, a Manchester alum, was inducted into the Spartans’ Hall of Fame in 2010 after playing both basketball and volleyball for four seasons.
