TinCaps president Mike Nutter accepted Ballpark Digest's Continued Excellence Award at the annual Winter Meetings in Las Vegas. Fort Wayne's Midwest League team earned the award in October for its organizational success through 10 years at Parkview Field.
"I was proud to accept this award on behalf of our entire TinCaps staff," Nutter said in a statement. "We are honored to be recognized and appreciate the award from Ballpark Digest publisher Kevin Reichard and his awesome team."
The award was one of several the Midwest League captured at the winter meetings, which concluded Thursday. The league was informed it led all minor leagues in charitable contributions in 2018, with the 16 teams giving $6.9 million as a group.
The Bowling Green Hot Rods earned the Baseball America Minor League Team of the Year after winning 97 games and the Midwest League title, while league president Dick Nussbaum won the Warren Giles Award for outstanding service in his four years as president.
Nussbaum was also re-elected to another four-year term as the league's president, through the 2022 season.
The Midwest League remains one of, if not the premier minor league in organized baseball. The TinCaps are a significant factor in that distinction, as these Winter Meetings prove. The 2019 season starts April 4.
