TinCaps shut out Whitecaps in road finale

Jawuan Harris drove in Chris Givin with a fifth-inning RBI single, Efrain Contreras pitched five shutout innings and the TinCaps beat the West Michigan Whitecaps 1-0 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan, on Tuesday.

The game was the final road matchup this season for the TinCaps (60-72, 27-37 second half), who finish 27-43 away from Parkview Field, including 3-4 on this final seven-game road trip.

The game was scoreless into the fifth, when Givin got a rally going with a line-drive double to left. With two outs, Harris drove him in with an infield single to the right side. It was the only hit with runners in scoring position for either team. Harris went 2 for 4.

Contreras earned the victory to improve to 6-5, striking out three, giving up five hits and walking one. A trio of Fort Wayne relievers turned in scoreless outings, as well; Ramon Perez, Dylan Coleman and Henry Henry kept Fort Wayne in front.

Henry got the final four outs to earn his 10th save of the season. The right-hander entered the game with runners on first and third and two outs in the eighth and got a groundout to end the threat.
