TinCaps rally falls short in 8th straight loss

The TinCaps found their offense a little too late as their comeback attempt failed in an 8-7 loss as Wisconsin swept the series at Fox Cities Stadium on Friday.

Fort Wayne (45-53, 9-19 second half) has now extended its season-longest loss streak to eight.

TinCaps’ Nick Vilter scored in the ninth when Ruddy Giron reached on a throwing error, Peter Van Gansen scored on a sacrifice fly from Austin Allen and Giron scored on a Marcus Green Jr. single.

The teams were tied after the second inning and the TinCaps held a brief 3-2 lead after the top of the fifth when Alan Garcia scored but Wisconsin responded with five runs to go up 7-3 in the bottom of the inning.

Wisconsin (49-49, 15-13) got runs from Troy Stokes Jr., Mitch Ghelfi, Isan Diaz, Jake Gatewood and Lucas Erceg in the fifth and Carlos Belonis added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth that proved to be the decider.

TinCaps starter Jean Cosme gave up two runs on four hits, striking out four in the first three innings and reliever David Bednar (0-2) gave up five runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings on the mound.

Timber Rattlers reliever Zack Brown (1-1) struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on two hits.

The TinCaps begin a three-game series at Beloit at 8:05 p.m. today.
