TinCaps use big inning to top Bowling Green
A huge fifth inning propelled the TinCaps 10-5 over Bowling Green at Bowling Green Ballpark in front of 3,721 fans Friday.
Fort Wayne (38-34, 2-0 second half) scored seven runs, with three homers, while batting around in the fifth.
Austin Allen started the scoring with a single to bring in Kodie Tidwell. Carlos Belen had a sacrifice fly to right to score Peter Van Gansen.
Ty France hit his fifth home run to bring in Allen and Brad Zunica followed with his eighth homer of the season. After Ruddy Giron flied out, Jhonatan Pena hit his third home run of the season.
Alan Garcia scored on a Tidwell double to give the TinCaps a 9-0 lead and added a run in the seventh to go up 10-3 when Giron scored on a balk.
Fort Wayne went up 2-0 in the first inning on runs by Tidwell and Allen.
Bowling Green (37-34, 0-2) scored once in the fifth and twice both the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't overcome the deficit.
TinCaps starter Jerry Keel (4-6) gave up one earned run off four hits, striking out two and walking one.
Michael Velasquez (2-7) gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits, striking out three and walking three in 4 2/3 innings for the Hot Rods.
The series at Bowling Green continues at 7:35 p.m. today.
