Komets general manager David Franke said he's not sure when Sean Maguire will join the Komets -- he just found out about the Arizona Coyotes' acquisition of the goaltender about 1:15 p.m. himself -- so I don't know whether he'll be in the lineup for Wednesday's game at Moline, Illinois, against the Quad City Mallards.
However, Franke said the Komets will find a way to carry three goaltenders, at least for now. So that means Michael Houser, Garrett Bartus and Maguire will all remain on the Fort Wayne roster.
Frankly, I've been saying for years I think they should keep three goalies, especially if they're going to be affiliated. It won't mean a lot of playing time for the reserves, but when you get into the latter portions of the season, it's a terrific luxury to have.
Reading between the lines, the Komets don't want to lose Bartus for nothing, especially since Houser or Maguire could be called up at any time. That doesn't mean they won't try to work a trade for Bartus at some point, depending on how they feel about the roster situation, like the salary cap.
