Forward Trevor Cheek, who had been with the Tucson Roadrunners of the higher-level American Hockey League, is back with the Komets.
It’s the third straight season in which Cheek, 25, has played for Fort Wayne.
He has totaled 43 goals and 77 points in 89 Fort Wayne games, including 19 goals and 34 points in 35 last regular season.
Cheek had played in 16 games with the Roadrunners this season, totaling two goals and seven points. Last season, he split time between Fort Wayne and Tucson, but that was before both Fort Wayne and Tucson were affiliates of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes.
The Komets play 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cincinnati. They play host to the Allen Americans at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, when they will wear superhero jerseys to be auctioned off to benefit charities chosen by local police, fire and EMS departments.
In other news, the ECHL unveiled plays for next season’s All-Star Classic, which will be Jan. 21, 2019, in Toledo, Ohio. There will be a round-robin, four-team, 3-on-3 tournament that pit two Toledo Walleye squads against a Western Conference team and an Eastern Conference team at the Huntington Center. Each team will consist of five forwards, four defensemen and a goaltender.
This year’s All-Star Classic, which had one Komets representative, Artur Tyanulin, was in Indianapolis on Monday.
