Ladd's absence from Komets' roster explained
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
I had a fan of the Komets contact me -- and you can feel free to do so at jcohn@jg.net with questions like these -- asking why Garrett Ladd wasn't listed on the Komets' roster at www.komets.com. And that was a very good question. Even though the hour was about 11 p.m., I didn't think this question could wait and I've found the answer. Here it is.
The Komets do still have his rights. They do still plan on him being with the team this season.
However, first, he's going to camp with the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves. You will remember, as part of the Komets' new affiliation with the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights, the Wolves are the rung on the ladder between Fort Wayne and Vegas.
So, if Ladd, 28, doesn't make the Wolves' roster, the Komets would hold his rights and he would have to play in Fort Wayne or, if he wants to play elsewhere in the ECHL, he'd have to be dealt.
The Komets sent future considerations to the Tulsa Oilers for Ladd last month. He had 21 goals and 46 points in 48 games last season for the Oilers. He also played overseas for the Coventry Blaze, totaling three goals and six points in eight games in the United Kingdom.
He has no AHL experience yet.
So, as far as I know, he should be with the Komets.
