For what it’s worth, the Wichita Thunder has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday to, allegedly, announce its new head coach.
Before you start asking, no, it won’t be Gary Graham, who was fired as coach of the Komets on Monday.
I don’t know if the Thunder was asleep at the wheel, but I’ve heard it didn’t know Graham was even a possibility until this week. Regardless, it seems the Thunder had its replacement for Malcolm Cameron in mind for awhile.
Too bad, too, because that job would have been a good fit for Graham for a lot of reasons.
On the Komets’ front, here’s a name to add to the potentials I hadn’t considered: Richard Matvichuk. He was an assistant on the Allen Americans’ championship teams, the ECHL’s
Coach of the Year with the Missouri Mavericks in 2016 and coached unspectacularly in the Western Hockey League the last three seasons, getting fired midway through this season.
