No cuts expected today for K's

The Komets don’t plan on making any cuts today, though there should be one before Wednesday’s deadline to turn in a roster to the ECHL.

The Komets have 24 players in training camp, about four more than are usually kept. However, they have injuries to players such as Brad Ross, Anthony Petruzzelli and Matt Brassard. With some headed for injured reserve, the Komets should only have to move one more player off their roster, coach Ben Boudreau said.

The Komets, who swept a two-game preseason series with the Wheeling Nailers last weekend, open their 68th regular season 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Coliseum against the Kalamazoo Wings.

Three players who had been signed by Fort Wayne -- Brett McKenzie, Olivier Galipeau and Brycen Martin -- are currently with Chicago of the higher-level American Hockey League and could be returned at any time. Another player is also expected to arrive from Ontario of the AHL in the coming days.
