Komets' Polish player to break string
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
This really surprised me.
When Alan Lyszczarczyk makes his debut for the Komets — presumably 7:30 p.m. today at Memorial Coliseum — he’ll be the first Polish player to be in North American professional hockey in 2,375 days. That’s according social media’s Polish Puck.
Now we must take it with a grain of salt because different people may have different definitions of what constitutes a Polish player. Lyszczarczyk was born in New Jersey.
The last Polish player, however, in North American pro hockey was Wojtek Wolski of the Washington Capitals.
The last Polish player in the ECHL was Adam Borzecki 5,299 days ago. He also was the last such player in the American Hockey League, 5,429 days ago.
