A.J. Jenks had two goals and an assist tonight, leading the Komets to their first road victory over the season – 6-2 over the Kalamazoo Wings in front of 4,590 fans at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The teams meet there again 7 p.m. Saturday.

Mason Bergh also scored for the Komets, giving the rookie at least one point in 10 of Fort Wayne’s 11 games. Bergh has also scored a goal in seven games for the Komets (6-4-1), who are 1-3-0 on the road.

With Dylan Ferguson having suffered an injury in Wednesday’s 5-4 loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones, the Komets brought in Patrick Munson to serve as Matthew Villalta’s backup. Munson, 24, had played three games this season with the Newfoundland Growlers, going 2-1-0 with a 3.31 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.

Villalta stopped 29 shots tonight. For Kalamazoo (4-2-1, 4-1-1 at home), Jake Hildebrand stopped 22 shots.

Fort Wayne’s Chase Stewart opened the scoring 2:53 into the first period by snapping the puck from the right side of the blue line into the top-left corner of the net. Bergh made it 2-0 with a shot from 18 feet out, during a power play, at 12:18.

On the ensuing faceoff, Fort Wayne’s Kyle Haas fought Kalamazoo’s Ben Wilson.

Kalamazoo’s Dylan Sadowy scored 48 seconds into the second period with a wraparound on a backhand shot, and then Wilson fought Brad Ross at 5:44.

Jenks made it 3-1 by redirecting a Max Gottlieb shot during a power play at 8:54. And Jenks scored again from the slot at 10:37 to make it 4-1.

Fort Wayne scored on 2 of 4 power plays. Kalamazoo was 0 for 4.

Brady Shaw and Jason Binkley finished the scoring for the Komets and Luke Sandler had the Wings’ other goal.
