Notre Dame football will face Purdue at Notre Dame Stadium on Sept. 18, 2021, the Irish announced Thursday. The Irish also released the rest of its 2021 schedule, which features home games against Toledo, Cincinnati, USC, North Carolina, Navy and Georgia Tech and road games at Florida State, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Stanford. Notre Dame will also play a neutral-site game against Wisconsin at Soldier Field in Chicago, home of the NFL's Bears.
The matchup against the Boilermakers will be the resumption of a series that played every year from 1946 to 2014 before being discontinued, while the game against Cincinnati will be a matchup of Brian Kelly and his former team, which he coached from 2007 to 2009 and led to a 34-6 record and back-to-back major bowl games.
The season-opener will be in Tallahassee at Florida State on Sept. 6, which is a Monday. The Irish will close the campaign on the road against the Cardinal on Nov. 27 and have a bye between the Virginia Tech game on Oct. 9 and the USC matchup on Oct. 23.
