Alize Johnson scored 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting, Walt Lemon Jr. had his first triple-double with the Mad Ants – and the second of his G League career – with 24 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds, but the Mad Ants lost 127-119 to the Wisconsin Herd in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Friday night.
It was only Fort Wayne’s second loss in its last eight games, and its sixth loss in the last 19 games.
The Mad Ants (16-15) play host to the Delaware Blue Coats 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Coliseum.
Wisconsin (24-8), which leads the Eastern Conference, snapped a three-game losing streak and was paced by Jaylen Adams’ 37 points on 13-of-19 shooting. Dragen Bender added 25 points and 10 rebounds.
The game in Menominee Nation Arena was closely matched – Fort Wayne was down 32-30 after the first quarter, it was tied at 58 at halftime and Wisconsin led 84-81 after three – but things turned heavily in the Herd’s favor in the fourth quarter.
Wisconsin opened the fourth with a 11-0 run, culminating with a Cameron Reynolds 3-pointer, to take a 95-81 lead. An Adams 3-pointer made it 105-88 with 7:21 remaining. And Luke Maye’s layup put the Herd up 117-98 with 4:20 left.
Fort Wayne’s Brian Bowen II had 20 points and 14 rebounds. Ben Moore had 16 points.
Wisconsin shot 57% from the field. Fort Wayne shot 46%.
