Mad Ants lose in triple OT

The Journal Gazette

Sean Kilpatrick hit a fadeaway jumper with 1:06 remaining in triple overtime, and took advantage of a Rakeem Christmas foul on the play, to give the Delaware 87ers a one-point lead over the Mad Ants.

Delaware didn't let go of the lead in a back-and-forth game, and emerged with a 128-124 victory that snapped the Mad Ants' winning streak at three games.

Kilpatrick had 45 points on 12-of-18 shooting, and his 3-point play put the 87ers ahead for good at 123-122 in Newark, Delaware. He was 15 of 16 from the free-throw line and 6 of 8 from 3-point range.

A 3-pointer by Fort Wayne's C.J. Fair with less than one second remaining had forced the first overtime at 106-all. Fair had 25 points, as did Christmas. They combined for 16 rebounds.

A Fair lay-up to tie it at 118 forced the third overtime.

Walter Lemon Jr. had 20 points. Shayne Whittington added 17 points and 15 rebounds for Fort Wayne (7-4). There were 21 lead changes in the game.

For Delaware (5-5), Jordan McRae and Christian Wood had 22 points apiece in front of 1,482 fans at the Bob Carpenter Sports Convocation Center.

The Mad Ants' Terran Petteway didn't play because of an ankle injury but could be back in the lineup this weekend.
