The Ball State football team dominated both by land and by air, en route to a 42-6 victory over Central Connecticut State in front of 9,801 fans at Scheumann Stadium on Thursday night.
The Cardinals racked up 316 rushing yards and 336 passing yards, compared with the 174 and 117, respectively, for the Blue Devils.
Riley Neal led the Ball State offense by completing 23 of 30 passes for 259 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, while also rushing six times for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Two of his touchdown passes went to Yo’Heinz Tyler, who converted both of his catches for scores and a total of 83 yards.
James Gilbert had 14 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown for the Cardinals (1-0), who will be back on the field Sept. 8 in South Bend for their first-ever game against Notre Dame.
For the Blue Devils (0-1), Jacob Dolegala was 14 of 24 for 117 yards with no interceptions. Aaron Dawson had the lone touchdown – in the fourth quarter – and rushed for 61 yards on 10 carries.
Ball State had 31 of the game’s 47 first downs.
