Saint Franics senior linebacker Piercen Harnish was named one of 13 finalists for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy on Wednesday. The honor, often referred to as the academic Heisman, is awarded to the best senior scholar-athlete in collegiate football.
Harnish, who holds the Saint Francis record for career tackles, has a 3.96 GPA as a Finance major.
All 13 finalists receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and are invited to the NFF Annual Awards dinner in New York City on Dec. 4. The winner will receive an additional $25,000 scholarship.
The finalists were winnowed down from a field of 179 semifinalists. Another Fort Wayne-area linebacker, Notre Dame's Drue Tranquill, was also among the 13 finalists.
