Pregame: Purdue Fort Wayne (17-12, 9-5 Summit League) vs. North Dakota (11-16-5-9)
ELIZABETH WYMAN | The Journal Gazette
History will likely happen tonight for redshirt senior guard John Konchar.
Sitting at 1,990 career points, Konchar's 10 points shy of 2,000. Should he reach 2,000 points he will become the first student-athlete in the history of NCAA Division I men's basketball to record 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists and 200 steals.
An insane stat line, which is not surprising at all for fans or those who've followed Konchar through his stored career that may have just weeks left.
Tonight shouldn't be too much of a challenge for the Mastodons, who would like to end a two-game skid before heading to the Summit League Championships on March 9. Conner Avants might be the only North Dakota player PFW needs to worry about. He's averaging 61.3 percent from the field to lead the Summit League in field goal percentage, but he's missed eight games due to injury. Tonight will be his second game back.
When these two teams played on Dec. 29 to open league play, the Mastodons won 84-73. It really didn't even feel that close but the Fighting Hawks hit 11 3s to never let the Mastodons fully pull away.
The Fighting Hawks are 3-10 on the road this season and the Mastodons are 11-3 at home.
Tip is at 7:30 p.m. at the Gates Center.
