Former Purdue Fort Wayne basketball player John Konchar did not get drafted in the NBA Draft Thursday night. However, minutes after the draft ended, ESPN senior insider Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that the Memphis Grizzlies are signing Konchar to a two-way contract.
Konchar has been residing in Los Angeles, working out and living with former IU player Romeo Langford, who was picked 14th by the Boston Celtics. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound guard told the Journal Gazette earlier this week that he worked out for NBA 10 teams the past few months.
As a senior at PFW, Konchar averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4 assists. He's the all-time leading scorer in program history, finishing his career with 2,065 points. During his senior season, he became the only player in Division I history to amass 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists and 200 steals. The West Chicago, Illinois native was a 4-time All-Summit League first team member.
