Jarred Godfrey had 20 points and four assists, but Purdue Fort Wayne came up short again against the best team in the Summit League, falling to North Dakota State 80-70 on Friday at the Scheels Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Tyson Ward had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bison, who are 11-1 at home this season.
PFW (12-15, 5-7 Summit League) went just 5 for 18 from beyond the 3-point line, the exact same totals the Mastodons had when they lost to North Dakota State in Fort Wayne 71-60 on Feb. 1. Purdue Fort Wayne shot 49% overall to just 40% for the Bison.
Dylan Carl had 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting for PFW and added eight rebounds, while Matt Holba chipped in 13 points and four rebounds. Holba went 2 for 3 from 3-point range and is 13 for 24 (54.2%) over his last five games from beyond the arc.
PFW trailed by 10 at halftime, but started the second half on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 43-41. A 10-0 run later in the half that included five points from Ward, however, put the Bison up 72-54 with 4:25 left and sealed the Mastodons' fate.
North Dakota State, which has won six straight, made 22 free throws to nine for PFW.
