Homestead baseball tops DeKalb


Homestead's Malik Wirges and Kade Kolpien combined for five RBI in the Spartans' 5-3 win over DeKalb in baseball on Wednesday.

Trailing 1-0, Kolpien's three-run homer in the third inning opened scoring for Homestead and Wirges drove in two runs in the fourth inning.

The Barons score twice in the top of the seventh but it wasn't enough.

Zach Bradtmiller struck out three and gave up five hits for Homestead while DeKalb's Tyler Stahl gave up five hits, two walks and struck out nine.


LEO 11, WAYNE 0: At Wayne, the Lions got home runs from Nick Tucker and Ryan Hackworth and two doubles from Adyn Stevens, who also earned the win.

HERITAGE 6, ADAMS CENTRAL 3: At Adams Central, the Patriots scored six in the fifth with the go-ahead run brought in by a single from Billy Lomow. Joel Deakins gave up three runs on eight hits and struck out two.


WARSAW 163, CARROLL 179: At Autumn Ridge, Tigers' Sam Yager earned medalist honors with a 3-over 39 on the front nine.

Ben Rudolph and Cody Lincoln each shot 41 to lead the Chargers.

LEO 177, NORWELL 177: At Cedar Creek, the Knights took the win with a fifth-man tie-breaker as Carson Libby's 52 beat Leo's Gavin Hieber's 55.

Leo's Reid Zimmerman led the field with a three-over 39 on the front nine and Jacob Collins and Kade Zadylak each shot 43 for Norwell.


NORWELL 3, ADAMS CENTRAL 2: Norwell improved to 7-0 with wins from Breann Barger at No. 1 singles, Molly Burton at No. 2 singles and Abby Hoover and Ashlee Xayyachack at No. 2 doubles.
