South Adams baseball won the Class 2A Adams Central Sectional with a 7-3 victory over Bluffton on Monday. The win was the ninth in a row for the No. 2 Starfires, who improve to 27-2 this season.
Leadoff hitter Grant Besser had three hits for South Adams, including an RBI single in a five-run second inning that broke the game open. Besser also started on the mound and pitched six innings, striking out eight.
Joe Stuber drove in three runs for the Starfires, while Clayton Thompson knocked in two for Bluffton (15-11), which scored all of its runs in the fifth. Gavin King had three hits for the Tigers.
South Adams moves on to the Whiting regional and will take on Hammond Noll on Saturday.
FREMONT 5, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 4: The host Eagles (14-14) won the Class 1A Fremont Sectional after Kameron Colclasure drove in the game-winning run in the sixth. Rhett Evans pitched a complete game and got the win.
EASTSIDE 9, WESTVIEW 6: The Blazers (15-8) won the Class 2A Westview Sectional with three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Maguire Jacobs went 3 for 5 with two RBI and two runs scored for Eastside. Keegan Miller also had three hits and drove in two.
JAY COUNTY 15, HERITAGE 8: Senior Joel Deakins went 4 for 4 with a triple, double and three RBI for Heritage (14-13), but seven Patriots pitchers gave up a total of six home runs to Class 3A sectional champions Jay County at Bellmont.
