Homestead girls roll past Snider

DAN VANCE | For The Journal Gazette

The top-seeded Homestead girls jumped out to a 23-0 lead in the first quarter and coasted to a 77-36 win over Snider in the first game of the second session of Thursday’s SAC Holiday Tournament.

Sydney Graber scored 10 first-quarter points and grabbed four rebounds to help the Spartans jump out to the big lead in their first game of at least four they will play over the final three days of the week. Homestead plays Friday at New Castle as part of the Hall of Fame Classic before the girls side of the SAC Tournament reconvenes on Saturday.

Da’Leshia Davis scored 23 points, including Snider’s first five of the game. Davis, playing in her fourth SAC Holiday Tournament, constantly attacked the Homestead defense as she put up big numbers against the Spartan reserves.

All 12 Homestead players saw action in each half, leading to a balanced offense throughout. The depth also allowed the Spartans’ starters to get a break before tomorrow’s two-game day.

Graber led all scorers with 17 points, joined teammates Sylare Starks with 13 points and Ayanna Patterson with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Spartans got scoring help from 11 players in all.
