South Side was looking frustrated and trailing Concordia by 14 points late in the first half of the SAC Holiday Tournament semifinal at Wayne, but the Archers scored eight straight points to set up a second-half comeback and clinch a spot in the finals Saturday night.
The Archers got off to a slow start, scoring just four points in the first quarter, and fell even further behind after Concordia scored seven unanswered to put the score at 20-6.
But South Side's scrappy, aggressive play began wearing on the Cadets late in the second quarter, and Olivia Smith gave the Archers their first lead of the day with a bucket in the third quarter.
Alaya Chapman led the Archers with 18 points, and birthday girl T'Laizha Morris came off the bench to score 11 points and, perhaps more critically, grab 16 rebounds. Jaci Jones, who did not score until the end of the second quarter, finished the game with 7 points.
Nautica Rogers led the Cadets with 16 points, and hit each of their last three baskets, one of which tied the game at 40-40 with two minutes left. But in the final minute, Rogers picked up her fifth foul as Chapman attempted the shot, and Chapman hit both free throws to put the Archers ahead 46-42.
The Archers will play Homestead, which beat Carroll in the morning semifinal, in the tournament finals at 7 p.m.
