Bishop Dwenger considering on-campus stadium

VICTORIA JACOBSEN | The Journal Gazette

Bishop Dwenger athletic director John Bennett confirmed reports Friday that the school is considering plans for an on-campus outdoor stadium that could host home sporting events such as football and soccer.

The Saints predominately use Shields Field, which is on campus and has an artificial turf field, track and some bleacher seating, as a practice facility. "Home" football games are currently held at Concordia Lutheran's Zollner Field, and soccer matches are held at The Plex North.

Bennett said that the school would need approval from both the city and the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend before starting construction and would have to confirm that there are sufficient funds to complete the project. Bennett said the administration hopes to know by March if the plan can proceed in the near future.
