Mike Ester, 45, a former Snider wrestling head coach and current Panthers assistant coach, died earlier this week.
Ester, who was also a special education teacher for Fort Wayne Community Schools, had been the first coach of the wrestling program at Indiana Tech, leading the Warriors from the inception of the program in 2010 and their first competitive season in 2011 through 2015.
Before that, he coached Snider from the 1997-1998 season through 2005-2006, leading the Panthers to seven sectional titles, eight SAC titles, a regional title and a second-place finish at the state meet in 2001.
Ester wrestled at Snider as a student, twice qualifying for the state meet and finishing third as a senior in 1992. He wrestled at Manchester from 1992 through 1996, becoming an NCAA qualifier during his senior season.
In a statement, Indiana Tech said: "The Indiana Tech Department of Athletics is saddened by the sudden passing of former men’s wrestling coach Mike Ester. Mike was a valued member of the Warrior community during his tenure at Indiana Tech and we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends."
