Avah Smith’s basket from the right block with under three seconds remaining lifted Woodlan past Bishop Dwenger 43-42 in Class 3A girls basketball sectional action at Concordia on Tuesday. The Warriors (18-6) won a postseason game for the first time in three seasons, while the Saints (9-12) closed out the year dropping four of five.
At South Side
HOMESTEAD 83, NEW HAVEN 24: The Spartans took a 42-point halftime advantage to advance to Friday’s semifinal round. Homestead (23-1) won its 15th game in a row, while the Bulldogs (4-19) ended the season on a five-game slide.
At East Noble
NORTHROP 63, NORTH SIDE 31: In the opener in Kendallville, the Bruins topped the Legends for the third time this season to move on in sectionals. Northrop (14-10) has won 4-of-6, while North Side (1-21) did perform better than its season offensive and defensive averages in the contest.
EAST NOBLE 51, SNIDER 40: In the nightcap in Kendallville, the Knights led just 37-33 after three quarters before pulling away. East Noble (10-15) improved to 6-6 at home this season, while Snider (5-18) won just one of its final 10 games.
CONCORDIA 36, LEO 13: The Cadets handled the Lions by blanking them in the first and third quarters. Chanteese Craig finished as the only double-figure scorer, leading Concordia (13-9) with 13. Leo (3-20) lost for the ninth consecutive time.
CENTRAL NOBLE 54, WAWASEE 31: The Cougars safely navigated their first-ever postseason game in Class 3A thanks to 21 points from Lydia Andrews and 17 from Bridgette Gray. Danielle Jenkins led the Warriors (8-15) with seven points. Central Noble (14-8) allowed just two fourth-quarter points defensively. NorthWood knocked off Tippecanoe Valley in the second game in LaGrange, 48-39.
ADAMS CENTRAL 56, CHURUBUSCO 24: The Flying Jets bested their 25-point regular season victory over the Eagles to advance, posting a 22-2 advantage in the final quarter. Adams Central (17-7) plays Canterbury on Friday, while Churubusco (6-16) fell for the third time in its last four games.
At Blackhawk Christian
BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 47, BETHANY CHRISTIAN 40: The Braves bested the Bruins to open the Blackhawk Christian Sectional. Hailee Kline netted 18 for Blackhawk Christian (16-7).
At North Miami
NORTHFIELD 58, SOUTHERN WELLS 36: The Norsemen defeated the Raiders for the second time in eight days, this time winning by 22 compared to the 17-point margin in the regular season. Southern Wells (4-18) finished 1-7 in its last eight.
SNIDER 59, BISHOP DWENGER 56: At Snider, the Panthers staved off an upset bid to move into first place alone in the SAC. Snider (15-3, 6-1) led by eight at halftime before the Saints (3-13, 1-6) rallied, briefly taking the lead early in the fourth quarter and trailing by just one point with 21 seconds to go.
Michael Eley led three Panthers in double figures with 24, while Xavier Nolan went 10-for-10 from the line en route to 21 points for Dwenger.
