Sophomore Andrew Leeper had 15 points and eight rebounds and junior Luke Goode added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Homestead to a 54-40 win at Concordia on Friday. The Spartans (13-7) have won two in a row following a season-long three-game losing streak.
The Cadets (9-9) were led by senior Arnad Samardzic, who scored 19 points and went 5 for 8 from 3-point range. The game was tied at 36 early in the fourth quarter, but the Spartans took control with an 11-0 run.
CARROLL 72, NORTHROP 56: At Carroll, the Chargers (14-3) won their third straight behind Richie Gross's 20 points on 9-for-12 shooting, five rebounds and four assists. Qualen Pettus had 16 points and five rebounds for Northrop (10-11).
LEO 50, COLUMBIA CITY 42: At Columbia City, D.J. Allen went for 8 for 11 from the field for the Lions (14-6) to finish with 19 points and Blake Davison chipped in 15 points and six rebounds.
BELLMONT 48, ANGOLA 37: At Bellmont, the Braves (8-9) snapped a six-game losing streak behind 15 points from Tyler James and 14, including 10 in the fourth quarter, from Kade Fuelling. Joel Knox had 15 points for Angola (10-8).
At the preliminaries for the state championship meet, Carroll finished in third place in the 200 meter medley relay and the 200 and 400 freestyle relay events. The Chargers are chasing powerhouse Carmel in all three events and in the 200 free relay were within 0.37 seconds of the top spot.
In the 100 backstroke, Carroll's Tristan DeWitt was second at 53.91 seconds, chasing a top time of 53.41. Homestead's Kyra Tonsil was fourth in the 50 free at 23.23 seconds, behind the top performance of 22.91.
