ARTS UPDATE

ARTISTS HELPING ANIMALS: Fort Wayne Heart of the City and the Allen County SPCA will have “Party Animal,” an art social event to benefit the SPCA, from 4 to 10 p.m. today at 125 W. Main St. The event will feature work of dozens of local artists, live painters and food and drinks. General admission is $5 and is available at the door. FREE RIDE SERVICE: The Fort Wayne Philharmonic will offer its free ride service to its Masterworks series concerts for people age 70 and older and those who have qualifying medical conditions. Locations for the service are Georgetown Square, 6704 E. State Blvd., and Stein Mart parking lot, 6325 W. Jefferson Blvd. Reservations are required two weeks in advance of each concert and can be made by calling 481-0770. Concert dates are Oct. 5, Nov. 2, Nov. 23, Jan. 11, Feb. 1, Feb. 22, March 14, April 4, April 25 and May 16. For more information about the concerts, go to fwphil.org.

HONORS:

The Mirror Lake Players, an improvisational group of members of the Jesters of the University of Saint Francis, will perform at the Second City in Chicago on Sunday. The group will be part of a show that features the Aspertypicals, a Chicago-based group of people with autism.

Fort Wayne native Makenzie Hart's short film, “Spin Cycle,” was honored at the recent HollyShorts Film Festival 2019 at TCL Chinese Theatres in Hollywood. The seven-minute film was Hart's senior thesis project and was co-written by Jordan Pollak.

AUDITIONS: Creative Arts Council will have auditions for “A Charlie Brown Christmas” for actors ages 8 to 18 from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 5 at the Arts, Commerce & Visitors Centre, 211 Water St., Bluffton. For more information, call 260-824-5222 or go to www.wellscocreativearts.com.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING: The Lakeland Art Association will host a Paint Plein Air event on Oct. 4. Artists will check in at 6:30 a.m. and begin painting at 9 a.m. around Warsaw. Judging will begin about 4:30 p.m. For more information, go to lakelandartassociation.org or call 574-267-5568.
