Violins of Hope focus for PBS39

Staff, news services

Six programs on WFWA PBS39 will help highlight the local visit of the Violins of Hope project starting with a “PrimeTime39” conversation Friday.

This week's presentation includes a conversation with project organizers Jacki Schreier of the Jewish Federation of Fort Wayne and Jim Palermo of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

The episode debuts at 7:30 p.m. Friday on Channel 39 and has encores this weekend. It also includes a preview of the two-week collection of arts and educational programming centered around about 50 violins that were played by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust.

Other programming on PBS39 includes the documentary “Violins of Hope: Strings of the Holocaust” at 9 p.m. Nov. 7; an interview with “Violins of Hope” author James Grymes at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8; and a conversation with violin maker Avshalom Weinstein at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 about the violin project's preservation work.

The documentary “Eva A-1063,” which is about a woman who survived the experiments of Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, will air at 9 p.m. Nov. 14 followed at 10:30 p.m. by “A Call to Remember,” which is about a man who was the only member of his family to escape the Nazis.

Violins of Hope begins Nov. 9 in Fort Wayne.
