The annual Kickstart event, which celebrates bike riding with monthlong community activities, begins this month. Here are some of the upcoming events. For a full list, go to kickstartfortwayne.com.
Trek the Trails: These free 6- to 8-mile rides on local trails happen every Tuesday at 6 p.m. through September, weather permitting, at different locations. This week's ride departs from Cookie Cottage, 620 W. Washington Center Road. Riders are asked to wear helmets.
TrailsFest: Fort Wayne Trails is hosting a fundraising event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at ted's Market, 12628 Coldwater Road. A bike ride on the Pufferbelly Trail starts at 11 a.m. from the LifeBridge Church trailhead.
CycloFemme: This free co-ed ride at noon May 12 at Tillman Park, 600 E. Tillman Road, celebrates and supports cycling for women of all ages. Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy in the park after the ride. Helmets are required.
Ride of Silence and Blessing of the Bikes: Bicycle Friendly Fort Wayne and Three Rivers Velo Sport will host a blessing of the bikes at 6:30 p.m. May 15 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W. Jefferson Blvd., followed by the free Ride of Silence at 7 p.m. at that location. Helmets are required.
Bike to Work Day: Bicycle commuters can grab some free breakfast from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. May 17 at Ash Skyline Plaza, 838 Harrison St. Pedal City, 1215 W. Main St., will host the after party from 4 to 8 p.m.
Fat & Skinny Tire Fest: A three-day event in downtown Warsaw and Village at Winona on May 17-19. There will be a variety of programs and activities including road tours, BMX racing and mountain-bike and road races.
Fort Wayne Trails update: Fort Wayne Trails will update the public about trail development and activities at the downtown Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza, at 7 p.m. May 23. New trail maps will be available.
Fox Island Sprint Triathlon #1: This 500-yard swim, 12-mile bike and 3.1-mile run happens at Fox Island Park, 7324 Yohne Road, May 25. The race starts at 8 a.m. and registration is required.
Bicycle-Friendly Driver Training: Fort Wayne Trails and the League of American Bicyclists will offer this free program at 7 p.m. May 29 at the downtown Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza, for drivers of all ages to learn how the rules of the road apply to drivers and bicyclists.
Fort4Fitness Spring Cycle: Marking its eighth year, this event offers a variety of distances for people of all ages and skill levels plus a vendor expo and food truck rally. It runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1, starting and finishing at the Arts United Campus, 303 E. Main St. Registration for the rides is required.
Le Tour de Fort: The 11th annual 21-and-over bicycle pub-crawl happens from noon to 7 p.m. June 1 at various locations in Fort Wayne with packet pick-up at the Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center, 431 W. Berry St. This event supports local veterans' organizations and registration is required.
