Registering to vote now as easy as sending a text

DAVE GONG | The Journal Gazette

Indiana voter registration has entered the mobile age, Secretary of State Connie Lawson announced Monday.

Hoosiers who want to register to vote just need to text “Indiana” to 2VOTE (28683) from a smartphone to receive a link to Indianavoters.com.

“We are always looking for new and innovative ways to help Hoosiers register and vote,” Lawson said in a statement. “This is just another step in that direction. Millennials and young voters expect the flexibility to register from their phone and we are giving them one more way to do this.”

To register, voters must be citizens at least 18  years old and have a valid driver's license or state identification card. Voters must have lived in their precinct at least 30 days prior to the election and not currently serving a sentence for a criminal conviction.
