Childbirth services will no longer be available at St. Joseph Hospital

The Journal Gazette

As of May 6, childbirth services will no longer be available at St. Joseph Hospital.

Lutheran Health Network said today it has finalized plans to consolidate maternity services from St. Joseph Hospital to existing programs at Dupont Hospital and Lutheran Children's Hospital. St. Joe will not offer childbirth services after May 6.

For the last several weeks, hospital and physician leaders at the three hospitals have been working with referring physicians and community organizations to ensure a seamless transition for patients. Those who have questions can call 260-425-3275 for additional information, Lutheran Health officials said.

"Lutheran Health Network is a leading provider of maternity care in our community and our commitment to caring for local families remains strong," a statement from Lutheran Health said. "Both Lutheran and Dupont are in the early stages of significant, multi-phase renovations to their NICUs and Birthplace units. We are confident patients will be pleased with the care and support they receive from our staff at Dupont and Lutheran Children's Hospital. As always, patients who are experiencing a medical emergency – childbirth-related or otherwise – can come to our hospital's emergency room. Our experienced emergency department team is trained to provide emergency medical care."
