MDA gets help from Mike's Carwash

Journal Gazette

All of the Mike's Carwash locations in Fort Wayne will partner with Fort Wayne Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 124 on Saturday to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the company announced Wednesday.

As part of the program, Ultimate Wash services will be discounted to $15 and $1 from each will be donated to support the fight to end muscular dystrophy.

“The Fort Wayne Fire Department is excited about their new partnership with Mike's Carwash and the MDA Fill the Boot Campaign. We appreciate the leadership shown by Mike's Carwash. They recognized a need and have provided a safe solution,” Fort Wayne Fire Chief Eric Lahey said.

The decision to help came after the company learned local firefighters were struggling to raise money through this year's Fill the Boot campaign. Changes in how the firefighters could collect money, including no longer being able to stand on roads, meant only $37,000 was raised this year, a drop from $110,000 in 2017.

“They dedicate time every year to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association and we want to make sure that they are able to continue this important work. It's an honor to partner with them in this mission and we look forward to seeing the impact our fundraiser will have on the Fort Wayne community,” Mike Dahm, the company's president, said in a statement.
