Northeast repaving on city's list

Council to vote on $1.7 million contract for street work

DAVE GONG | The Journal Gazette

The Fort Wayne City Council on Tuesday will debate and vote on a $1.7 million contract for street repaving on the city's northeast side.

The contract with E&B Paving Inc. is for $1,689,992.60 and will cover resurfacing work for City Council Districts 1 and 2. Crews will mill and resurface 1 to 3 inches of asphalt, patch where necessary, and furnish and adjust castings. The contract also includes placement of pavement markings.

A list of streets contained in this resurfacing package was not immediately available Friday.

Councilman Russ Jehl, R-2nd, said he's grateful for the annual resurfacing maintenance and said it appears that infrastructure funding has been equally distributed throughout the city.

“I'm grateful that the work is going on and that there will be a few more better streets in the 2nd District as a result,” Jehl said. “Let's do some more. I can't wait to get to the budget in a couple of months and get to work on making the next package equally as large.”

Paul Ensley, R-1st, agreed.

“I'm definitely excited to have freshly resurfaced streets in some much-needed areas in northeast Fort Wayne,” he said. “I want to continue to make neighborhood infrastructure and all infrastructure a priority for the city.”

Work on the resurfacing package is expected to be complete by Oct. 25, according to the contract.

Last month, City Council approved a $1.3 million contract with E&B Paving Inc. for seven miles of paving on Fort Wayne's southeast side. That project is expected to be complete this fall.
