Kathy Callen, a senior vice president of community engagement at Old National Bank, was named Woman of the Year by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne at the 16th annual Smart Girls Brilliant Women Luncheon.
Camiah Anderson, a Lane Middle School sixth grader and a club member for five years, was named Smart Girl of the Year during Wednesday's luncheon at Grand Wayne Convention Center. About 750 people attended.
The Smart Girls Brilliant Women program meets twice weekly and focuses on healthy lifestyles in mind, body and spirit.
Callen was an active fundraiser for Promenade Park and through involvement with numerous organizations has focused on making Fort Wayne “a vibrant and inclusive community that attracts young talent and business,” according to the event program.
Callen, in prepared remarks, said she has supported the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne because of the commitment to helping children. The local clubs serve 500 mostly at-risk, minority school-aged children who live in homes at or below the poverty level.
Other Smart Girl award finalists included Clara Taylor, Exaviona Roddy, Dynaist Jenkins and Kourtney Spencer.
Local TV journalist Terra Brantley announced the newly created Terra Brantley Foundation, which will provide a $15,000 scholarship to a deserving “Smart Girl” to be announced at next year's event.
Brantley partnered with Sweetwater, Summit Chevrolet and Parkview Health.
