Parkview plans southwest center

Ex-Bandido's site; to have outpatient surgery

Parkview Health System plans a four-story, multiuse medical building containing an outpatient surgery center on Fort Wayne's southwest side. 

The site at 8202 Glencarin Blvd. is the former Bandido's restaurant property along Illinois Road. The project will have a public hearing before the Fort Wayne Plan Commission next month.

According to documents filed this week with the Department of Planning Services, the Parkview Inverness Health Park will be on 6.24 acres on the south side of Illinois Road in Aboite Township but within city limits.

The building will eventually contain 130,000 square feet – 104,000 square feet in the first phase and 26,000 in an addition to be built later.

Parkview officials are seeking several exceptions to development zoning standards for the building, while saying it will not conflict with surrounding uses.

Plans show it rises to 50 feet, including a rooftop mechanical building, or 20 feet above the allowable limit. Also sought are waivers for excess ground coverage, uplighting and a canopy over a side entrance to aid departing surgery patients.

In March, the owner of Bandido's announced on Facebook the restaurant would be closing by the end of May. “Parkview” was given as the reason, without elaboration.

The new medical facility will be near a nursing home and Piper Trail, a new Lutheran Life Village development of single-family homes for those 55 and over. Covington Dells is nearby.

Parkview officials Wednesday did not provide details about what the building would house.

“Plans for our new building at Glencarin Boulevard and Illinois Road are still being finalized,” said Tami Brigle, Parkview's public relations manager.

“We will share more information, such as details on the services that will be offered, in the near future.”

The project will have a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 13 in Room 35 of Citizens Square.
