An Ohio-based contract manufacturer is expanding its Columbia City operations and will receive tax credits along the way if all goes well.
SGS Specialty Group, which contracts to make medical devices, surgical instruments and specialized cutting tools, announced Tuesday the expansion to come in the years ahead.
The company was previously named Oak View Tool Company.
The expanded work at the Columbia City location will create up to 17 new jobs by 2019, according to the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation.
“Manufacturers like SGS Specialty Group provide a key gear in our Hoosier economy,” said Eric Doden, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
The IEDC offered Oak View Tool Company up to $175,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company's job creation estimates.
The company will not be eligible to claim the incentives until those estimates are met.
SGS currently employs 27 full-time people in Indiana.
“This division of our company was founded and nurtured in Indiana and this is our home,” said David Eizelman, president of SGS Specialty Group.
